Valley Industrial Trucks, a full-service material handling equipment dealer based in Youngstown, has donated $25,000 to The Golden String and its Gabbacamp project. The money will be used to construct a cabin at Gabbacamp, just one vehicle through which The Golden String supports adults with disabilities.
The donation is made in loving memory of James Cipriano, who was a long-time VIT employee prior to his death in 2013. James was born with Down syndrome in 1962 and worked as a custodian at VIT for over 20 years.
The Golden String is a non-profit organization located in Youngstown, serving adults with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and traumatic brain injury. The organization strives to improve the lives of its friends with disabilities by providing job opportunities and organizing social events and vacations. Golden String’s Gabbacamp serves as one such vacation spot, where friends with disabilities can participate in camp activities such as swimming, farming, educational classes and equine therapy.
“It is a great honor to support Jim Sutman and The Golden String and help adults with disabilities,” said Jim Hammond, owner of VIT. “Giving back to our community is an integral part of our culture at VIT and we have supported The Golden String for many years. I am hoping that we can help raise awareness so others will see how important the work is that Mr. Sutman does.”
