MECO Omaha Raises Money for Suicide Awareness

MECO VP Steve McClintock hosted a fundraiser for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at his home on Saturday, August 19th. Current and past MECO employees joined Steve’s friends and neighbors for a fun evening in his backyard. Games, drinks and dinner were followed by a raffle of twenty-five awesome gift baskets. The night was enjoyed by all. More importantly, the evening was very successful in raising funds to increase suicide awareness, a cause strongly supported by Modern Equipment Company and its employees. So far, the event has generated more than $5800.00, with funds still coming in!

MECO’s employees and friends will continue their fundraising efforts Saturday, September 30th, as they participate in the AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Walk at Stinson Park here in Omaha.

Modern Equipment Company Supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Each year, Modern Equipment Company, Inc. (MECO-Omaha) supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) by organizing a benefit put on by VP-Sales, Steve McClintock where employees and friends gather for food, drinks, games and a raffle to help raise additional contributions for the important cause.

In addition, many of these same people will gather as part of Team MECO for the annual Out of Darkness Walk to show their support for those affected by suicide. Following the walk, there will be an open house at Hanscom Park for those interested to come together to enjoy some light refreshments and visit with others. The open house began as a way for MECO’s President, Mitch Schlater and his family to honor the loss of his two son’s to suicide but has expanded to include many others who have been affected by a loss to suicide.

These events give the people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health.

In 2022, MECO-Omaha raised over $8,300 through the generous contributions from vendors, customers, and employees. You can make a donation to the Out of the Darkness Walk in support of Steve McClintock/Team MECO at afsp.org. Together, we can provide even more assistance to AFSP in its mission to save lives, and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. Learn more at afsp.org.
