Retail and auction values have experienced a consistent decline month-over-month, currently standing 13% and 22% below their respective peaks in early 2023. Relative to January 2019, retail values have increased 22% and shown less price volatility than auction, which is currently up 15%.
Year-to-date in 2023, retail sales volumes for forklift trucks have increased by 34% relative to the same period in 2022. Although sales volumes in October 2023 have exceeded those of both October 2021 and October 2022, they currently register slightly lower on a year-to-date basis when compared to the corresponding period in 2021.
Physical utilization continues to hover within a range positioned between pre-pandemic benchmarks and the utilization peaks witnessed in the latter part of 2021 and throughout 2022. As of early November, the utilization rate stands slightly above 70%, marking a 9 basis points decrease from 2022 while indicating a 4 basis points increase compared to the levels recorded in 2019.
