Charles Frederick Haywood died on August 10th, 2024 at his home in Cape Elizabeth, ME surrounded by family and friends. He was 83 years old.
Charlie was born in Lynn, Massachusetts to Henry Stuart and Lillian (Allen) Haywood of Swampscott, Massachusetts. Charlie was educated in Swampscott Public Schools, Kimball Union Academy and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1964, with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Economics and Finance. While at UVM, he met his lovely wife, Frances, and they married on July 11, 1964 in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. They celebrated their 60th anniversary with all of their children and many of their grandchildren just last month.
Charlie founded Yankee Industrial Truck Corp. in 1967, representing Hyster Company in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. In 1997 the company changed its name to Hyster New England Inc. and acquired Lewis/Boyle Inc. in Waltham, MA, enlarging the sales territory to the six states of New England. Charlie always valued his association with MHEDA. The many friends and colleagues from across the country truly enriched his business life and his family’s personal life as well.
