Fairbanks Scales Launches FB2900 Intrinsically Safe Weighing Instrument

Engineered for safe, accurate performance in hazardous (classified) industrial environments.

Overland Park, KS – May 11, 2026 — Fairbanks Scales, a leader in industrial weighing solutions for over 190 years, announced the launch of the FB2900, its newest rugged, battery-powered intrinsically safe weighing instrument designed for the most demanding hazardous environments across multiple industries.

The FB2900 delivers exceptional safety, reliability, and operational flexibility in facilities where explosive atmospheres from flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dusts are a constant concern. From process manufacturing and bulk material handling to batching, formulation, and packaging operations, the FB2900 enables accurate weighing performance while supporting safe operation.

cFMus certified for all Classes, Groups, and Divisions — including Class I, Zone 0, Gas Group IIC and Zone 20, Dust Group IIIC — the FB2900 can be installed and operated directly in hazardous locations without the need for additional barriers or explosion-proof enclosures. The instrument is also Factory Mutual approved for Classes I, II, and III, Divisions 1 and 2, supporting deployment across a broad range of hazardous (classified) applications.

Developed in accordance with intrinsic safety principles, the FB2900 limits electrical energy within the device to levels below those capable of causing ignition, enabling safe use in classified environments without compromising performance.

Constructed with a 304 stainless steel IP65-rated enclosure, the instrument is designed for washdown and corrosive environments, providing durability in demanding industrial conditions. Its intrinsically safe, battery-powered design supports flexible deployment across facilities, including remote and power-limited areas.

Powered by the advanced ACC-2930 rechargeable battery, the FB2900 delivers up to 48 hours of continuous operation. Advanced sleep and wake features extend battery life and minimize downtime in critical 24/7 operations.

With a high-resolution display, intuitive interface, and compatibility with existing weighing systems, the FB2900 supports both new installations and retrofit applications, helping organizations maintain operational efficiency while meeting safety and compliance requirements.

Optional safe-area accessories extend functionality beyond the hazardous area while preserving intrinsic safety. These include remote scale control, analog and digital communications, transaction recordkeeping, ticket printing, automated filling and batching routines for up to eight ingredients, and check-weighing.

Key Benefits:

• Intrinsically safe design for hazardous (classified) environments
• cFMus certified and Factory Mutual approved for broad compliance
• Durable 304 stainless steel IP65-rated enclosure
• Reliable performance in harsh industrial conditions
• Battery-powered flexibility for remote and continuous operations
• Compatible with existing weighing systems for retrofit applications

“The FB2900 sets a new benchmark for intrinsically safe weighing,” said a Fairbanks Scales product manager. “With its broad hazardous-location certifications, advanced battery performance, and flexible integration capabilities, operators can achieve the highest levels of safety, accuracy, and productivity across a wide range of industrial environments.”
