Certified Forklift Technician Training

The Certified Forklift Technician (CFT) training is a nationally recognized certification aligned with ISO standards. Developed in partnership with the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), this comprehensive, industry-driven program is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled technicians.

About This Program

As forklift dealers face a shortage of qualified technicians, MHEDA has partnered with the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) to develop the Certified Forklift Technician (CFT) training program. The purpose of the program is to certify and recognize those who demonstrate the necessary skills in the maintenance, service, and repair of forklift vehicles. This training equips individuals in the industry with the tools to succeed and is delivered through a company’s training department or local technical school.

Course Outline

This certification consists of an online e-learning course, an assessment and a performance-based, hands-on assessment. The e-learning is not optional.

  • E-Learning Course: A 55-hour online training course.
  • Online Assessment: An online assessment made up of 92 multiple-choice questions based on industry-defined standards. Individuals must pass to progress to the hands-on portion, however if individuals want to stop after the online portion, they will receive their Certified Forklift Associate Certificate (CFA).
  • Hands-On Assessment: A performance-based evaluation where individuals must demonstrate their understanding of the 20 key activities, delivered at a forklift dealership or technical school.  Individuals who complete all parts, receive the Certified Forklift Technician Certification (CFT).

How Does it Work?

The Certified Forklift Technician (CFT) Program offers a reliable path to recruit, train, and retain skilled technicians, ensuring your team is equipped to meet the demands of today’s material handling industry. This exclusive program is available only to MHEDA member companies, providing them with a competitive advantage in building a skilled and certified workforce.

Once established as an authorized training center, you can begin certifying both new and existing technicians internally. Delivering the program in-house provides flexibility in scheduling, ensures consistent training standards, and helps maintain a highly skilled team ready to meet today’s technical demands.

Are you currently working with a technical school? Bring the CFT curriculum to your local technical school with the help and support of MHEDA and MSSC. Through your established partnership you have the potential to identify and mentor future technicians, creating a pipeline of trained, entry-level talent ready to join your team.
