GREENE, N.Y., April 21, 2020 —Within the past few weeks, Raymond’s innovative engineering team and associates have begun to 3D print and assemble face shields at the company’s headquarters in Greene, N.Y. The team is on track to produce more than 2,000 face shields to be dispersed to local hospitals and emergency responders. 1,000 face shields have already been delivered.
“Like everyone, we at Raymond have heard the appeals for protective equipment from our local healthcare workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Michael Field, president and CEO of The Raymond Corporation. “As an essential business, we have an acute understanding of the need worldwide to provide our heroic doctors, nurses and first responders for the PPE equipment they desperately require. Raymond has the ability and desire to utilize our vast production capabilities to support those crucial employees.”
The project began after Raymond Engineer Josh Smith’s mother, a nursing professor at SUNY Morrisville’s Norwich campus, asked him if he could make some of these shields in his home workshop with his 3D printers. Smith brought the idea to Raymond, and the company jumped into action. Raymond executives, development engineering, procurement, IT, MRO department, manufacturing engineering and assemblers have all contributed to the production. Raymond will continue to evaluate what else can be done to help the many extended Raymond family members who work in the medical field.
